Overview and guiding principles
The University of Washington Tacoma is engaged in a process to update the Master Plan for developing its 46-acre campus in response to recent changes in UW Tacoma’s mission and ongoing changes in the surrounding urban setting.
Although a full review of the Master Plan was completed in 2003, the recent addition of freshmen and sophomores to the UW Tacoma’s transfer and graduate student population requires careful evaluation of the plan. Continue reading the overview...
Process and schedule
The UW Tacoma Master Plan Update process is scheduled for completion summer of 2008. The project has three phases:
- Information gathering, Winter 2008: Evaluation of previous work, collection of data and relevant information, meetings with internal stakeholders and key constituents.
- Evaluation of options, Spring 2008: Feedback will be solicited and evaluated through campus and community meetings and charettes.
- Presentation of final plans, Summer 2008: Presentations of final proposals will be made to community constituents and Tacoma City Council.
Presentation for approval to the University of Washington Board of Regents will occur early autumn 2008.

Topics of discussion
Several issues emerge repeatedly in conversations about the future of the UW Tacoma campus. The Master Plan Update project team is in the process of capturing these recurring topics. Subjects include parking, housing, movement of traffic through and around campus and retail restaurants and businesses. You can comment on the Master Plan Update by e-mailing the Master Plan Update Team, as well as by participating in community meetings and public charettes that will be publicized on the UW Tacoma Web site and through media announcements. You can also follow the process by reading notes from previous meetings on the Documents, events & maps page.
Information about the plan will be presented, and feedback solicited, through presentations to community groups and organizations listed on the How to get involved page.
